Star Wars, Alice In Wonderland and More.

This weekend I got to spend a fair bit of time working - while I have a couple of pieces I am holding back until I finish them, I have a few pieces I finished below. The best part about this weeks work is I got to work with some pencils from two of my favorite artists - J Scott Campbell and Robert Atkins, I can't say enough how honored I am that I was allowed to work with their lines (Robert Atkins was unbelievably cool about letting color his work)

Anyways, I hope you dig this weeks offerings, and as always, don'f gorget to check out my Facebook and DevinatArt profiles!

My Work From This Week!

So, I have a couple of pieces I worked on this week. First off, an awesome Death Dealer image from Nat Jones and Richard Bonk - with Flats by Hector Rubilar. This was my first attempt working with someone else's flats, and while I don't think it particularly saved me much time with my final image, I am definitely not opposed to trying it again (in fact I have already grabbed a few flatted images from DevinatArt for me to work with.)

Next up, I inked and coloured a pic of Cyclops from the X-Men, which was pencilled by Komus. It was pointed out to me by Sean Ellery, an artist I respect greatly, that the pencils had a very David Finch feel about them - and I really do not see that as a bad thing.

Anyways, check out this weeks work, and let me know what you think.

Don't forget I also maintain a Facebook page and DevaintArt profile (both of which receive more frequent updates than the once a week I am currently doing on this blog!)

This week's inks and colours..

This week has been a very productive week for me, I have had the week off my regular, boring old day job, and spent the week producing work. I threw some colours down on some awesome pencils and inks featuring Red Sonja, Jason Vorhees and the Master Chief. I also inked up a really cool pic of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

I have also scored a commission to do a tattoo design of Hades this week - so hopefully that will be finished to post next week, and I have also started work on some sequential inking samples, so that is something else to look forward too...

But for now, here is this weeks work!

This weeks pieces.

This week, I coloured an awesome Terry Dodson Young X-Men cover (inked by Jorge Copo), and I threw some inks down on an image of the Master Chief from Halo, penciled by Jeremy Dale. I will have colours coming for the Master Chief image really soon, and if you want to have a go at colouring it - I have a hi res version available at my DeviantArt page, I love to see what people can do with my inks.

The Young X-Men cover featuring Mirage and Magma gave me a chance to play with a few effects (especially on Magma) and just have a bit of fun.

Check them out, and let me know what you think.

This week...

This weekend was a slower one for production (after the monster weekend from last weekend). I did do a some colours for a Freddy digital drawing I found on DeviantArt.

I have also done cover pencils and inks for a Batman story by Daniel Kalban. I was also commissioned over the weekend to do another Halo image for a young guy's 12th birthday, so that will be cool - but I can;t show them until next weekend.

So for now, enjoy Freddy Kruger by Frostdusk

Influence Spotlight: Frank Frazetta

So each week, I will post a few samples of the stuff I have been working on for you all to see, I will try talk a little about what has been going on with my art and new techniques I am trying etc.

Today's influence spotlight will be about Frank Frazetta, while not really a comic book artist as such, he has had a massive impact on many, many comic artists as well as fantasy artists. Frank's most famous pieces are probably his images for series like Conan the Barbarian.

Two of my favourite things about Frazetta's work are his compositions and colour pallet. I love his use of triangle shaped composition to lead the eye and make characters seem larger than life. I love the way his pallet contains a lot of natural earthy colours that give his work a very gritty, almost mean and oppressive feel, it is something that I really try to emulate when doing heavy fantasy type pieces (my Conan colours here are an example). The two elements combined with his awesome handle on human anatomy make for amazing art - in both he comic and fantasy art fields.

Check out the following links for more on Frank Frazetta and some of my favourite images of his below too.

Blog of the Week: JK5-Inks

Blog of the week is a regular Friday post in which I spotlight a blog or profile I have been reading during the week. These may be professional or amateur artists, but they will always be artists whose work I truly admire.

This weeks "Blog of the Week" is going to be about an inker who I have worked on some colours for recently. The primary inker at JK5 is Jeff Graham, and his partner Kellie doing his black fills for him. I met Jeff via DeviantArt when I stumbled upon his outstanding inks while looking for some quality images to colour. To date I have coloured two of Jeff's inks, but I have plans to do more int he very near future!

Check out Jeff's work below and you can catch a lot more of it at DeviantArt and on Facebook.
